I did a 10-day August vacation to the San Juan Mtns of SW Colorado. Hiked at Telluride, Lizard Head Wilderness, and tested the rain gear on a flower-filled trail to Hope Lake. I also enjoyed Animas Forks, an abandoned mining town at 11,200 ft. I was in Colorado when the 35w bridge collapsed, and we were thankful for a satellite dish on the roof of our rental house. In April - another vacation, to Moab, Utah. Highlights: a rainbow in the desert, unexpected bouldering on a re-routed trail, wading thru pools of water (very cold!) in Little Wild Horse Canyon, mountain biking on Klondike Bluffs Trail. I took flower photos and worked hard at learning their names. They are desert flowers - another thing I love about canyon country, along with the red dust and burnt cliffs. Many beautiful things, that lie beyond the end of the roads.
